Rio is the first Kia to have the option of a petrol 48V mild-hybrid system. This MHEV (Mild-Hybrid Electric Vehicle) comes under the ‘EcoDynamics+’ banner. The 48V lithium-ion polymer battery joins with a newly developed 118bhp petrol engine, the ‘Smartstream’ 1.0-litre T-GDi. A new ‘clutch-by-wire’ system, intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT), offers an engaging driving experience, while reducing CO2 emissions and further improving fuel efficiency. A seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission (7DCT) is also an option for the 118hp mild-hybrid version. This comes with with a Drive Mode Select system to give you a choice of ‘Eco’, ‘Sport’ and ‘Normal’ modes.
In addition to the mild hybrid version, engine choices include a petrol version featuring a ‘Smartstream’ four-cylinder 16-valve engine with Dual-Port injection.
The new Kia Rio offers fuel economy of up to 52.3mpg and CO2 emissions from only 122g/km.
Rio now features the sort of connectivity and technology only usually found on much larger and more expensive cars. From grade ‘2’ models, you’ll find a large 8” touchscreen with split-screen capability, giving access to the sat nav, audio and your smartphone. You can also access the system via online voice recognition. You can find points of interest and addresses, listen to weather updates or send text messages – all hands-free. Phase ll features include being able to use your smartphone to find your vehicle, and check diagnostics and vehicle reports, as well as being able to send your Rio directions before you start your trip.

Rio has a new look, inside and out. Outside, there’s more style and it’s definitely a lot sportier. Full LED headlamps with integral running lights combine with the redesign of the front end to make the Rio sit confidently on the road. There’s a choice of seven exterior colours to choose from. These include two new colours: Storm Grey and Azure Blue. For grade ‘3’ models, there are beautiful, new 16” eight-spoke alloy wheels.
Inside, the Rio is all about quality and technology. The materials used enhance the feel of quality throughout the cabin. As well as the 8” touchscreen for the UVO Connect system, new Rio models benefit from a colour 4.2” supervision cluster display. The GT-Line offers a black interior and a carbon-fibre effect dashboard. The seats come with stunning white piping and stitching.
