Kia have been on a roll with their model releases over the past couple of years adding more and more hybrids and fully-electric models across their range. With small crossover models such as the Kia Niro Hybrid and All-New XCeed Hybrid offering great flexibility around urban settings and the mid-size Sportage Hybrid being a great all-rounder, Kia have rounded-out their hybrid range with a large-SUV in the shape of the Sorento Hybrid.
Branded the ‘Smartstream’ power trains, the Kia Sorento Hybrid pairs a 1.6 litres T-GDi turbocharged petrol engine with a 44.2kW electric motor. Power is fed to the motors via a 1.49kWh lithium-ion polymer battery that sits low on the car’s chassis meaning no interior space is lost in the cabin. The result is reduced emissions, improved efficiency (we’ll be getting the official figures soon, so stay tuned) and a power output of 230ps and 350 Nm of torque. That’s plenty for the Sorento Hybrid to accelerate effortlessly and provide much needed pulling power when loaded with cargo, or indeed towing a trailer or caravan.
