Honda MSX125 125cc
Weighing no more than 100 kilogrammes, the Honda MSX125 is a little bike that has a lot to offer. For a start, it’s hugely enjoyable to ride – and perfect for zooming around town.
Petite, funkily fashioned and provisional licence-friendly, the MSX125 – also known as the Grom – has achieved cult status the world over. It first rolled off the assembly line in 2014, immediately garnering widespread acclaim and popularity. The Grom very much shares DNA with the Honda Monkey but offers greater mini-sports appeal, as opposed to the Monkey’s emphasis on retro stylings.
If you’re looking for a high-spirited bike that’s easy and fun to ride, and which stands out from the 125cc crowd, the Honda MSX125 is an excellent option.
Pared-down perfection
Boasting individualistic looks born of a pared-down design, the MSX125 offers wide appeal – and it has particularly found favour with the latest generation of riders. Its compact size makes it ideal for small or medium-sized riders of both sexes, particularly those who require a bike that can easily handle hectic urban landscapes. Another thing in the Grom’s favour: it’s very customisable, with eye-catching bodywork that can easily be removed if you fancy pimping your ride. For instance, you might choose to switch out the exhaust and introduce a low-mounted version. Or add a headlight cowl and a seat cowl. Or a belly pan. Or… the options are virtually endless. Before you make any changes, there’s the small matter of which colour to choose – and there are three fine options. Matt Gunpowder Black Metallic is a must for the cool crowd while Pearl Queen Bee Yellow or Pearly Gayety Red are ideal options for the more flamboyant riders among you.

Transport of delight
Don’t be fooled by MSX125’s compact size; it offers much more riding room than first impressions might suggest. It’s comfortable too, with a seat that’s designed to be sunk into rather than perched upon. Also, the bike’s focused dimensions ensure that it’s easy to control – and manoeuvre in limited spaces. The Grom is fitted with a two-valve, single-cylinder 125cc engine which outputs 9.9bhp and 11.1Nm of torque, enabling plenty of urban oomph. Indeed, it accelerates quickly and manages a top speed of 67mph. The MSX125 is very cost-effective to run too, returning an average 109mpg – and with a topped-up 5.5-litre fuel tank, it offers a maximum range of 144 miles. What’s more, this Euro 5-compliant two-wheeler produces CO2 emissions as low as 35g/km.
