The DAX 125 is built to handle whatever you've got.

Honda Bike DAX 125

The Dax made its debut at the tail end of the Swinging Sixties, when cultural creativity – music, fashion and film, most notably, was at a peak. Already, in 1963, Harold Wilson, the then-leader of the Labour Party had talked about the “white heat” of technological innovation. So, it’s no surprise that a bike such as the Honda Dax was devised and manufactured during these heady times.

The modern-day Dax 125 possesses the easy-going style of its late-1960s/1970s precursor – and since technology has evolved substantially since then, it rides even better than before. The reasons for this are numerous. For instance, the bike boasts an upgraded frame, delivers enhanced suspension, produces increased braking power and outputs more oomph than ever.

Today, the Dax is as relaxing to ride as it was back in the day, even more so, in fact – and it’s a whole lot of fun too.

Minibike, maximum Dax

New and yet the same, the Dax is very recognisably the motorcycle that was so beloved more than three decades past, which can’t be said of all such updates. And while it retains so many qualities of the original, the Dax 125 is very much a minibike for the modern age. The name, by the way, derives from that of the Dachshund, due to this two-wheeler’s T-shaped pressed-steel mainframe, which is not unlike that of a sausage dog. Indeed, an insignia representing this particular German canine features prominently on the bike’s frame, just below the seat. While the Dax 125 doesn’t necessarily take itself too seriously, Honda is very serious about its construction and what it offers, which is why it’s as sturdy as it is stylish. For instance, high-rising mini-ape handlebars evoke those of the 1969 model while providing the rider with a sense of absolute control.

Responsive brakes

The bike’s disc brakes are managed by a twin-pot calliper (front), single-pot calliper (rear) and Anti-lock Braking System – all combining to provide extremely effective high-speed stopping power.

A perky performer

The contemporary Dax benefits from an air-cooled, SOHC, four-stroke, two-valve, 125cc engine, the biggest such motor to be fitted to the bike. Nevertheless, there’s no sacrifice to smoothness – quite the opposite, actually – and it’s a very quiet bike too. This motorcycle’s easy-to-use four-speed gearbox relies on centrifugal technology (as opposed to the traditional clutch lever) and a foot-operated lever. If you’re in the market for an accomplished urban bike, the Dax is a great option. Delivering a top speed of 60mph, it’s a nimble little performer that’s more than up to the task of handling hectic city streets. Blessed with Honda’s trademark build quality and reliability, the Dax 125 is designed to last the course – but why not find out for yourself?
