From the moment of its release in 2017, the Honda CMX500 Rebel hit the ground running, becoming the best-selling factory Custom bike in 2021 – and it continues to go great guns.
As soon as it became clear that this mid-range bobber would homage its 1930s-heyday roots while encapsulating Honda’s modern-day desire to innovate, it was born to succeed. Of course, the globally admired Japanese bike maker has never rested on its laurels. Which is why Honda quickly set about making an already great motorcycle even greater. Following recent revisions, it’s now become even more comfortable to ride, thanks to redesigned suspension and seating.
Possessed of gorgeously chunky good looks, this easy-riding bike offers terrific value for money, whether you’re a relative newcomer to the bobber scene or a seasoned veteran.
Compact cruiser
Stripped-down yet rugged, the 471cc Rebel exudes significant levels of motorcycle magnetism and a whole load of attitude. Featuring a 690-millimetre seat height and mid-position footrests, the CMX500 Rebel’s overall size makes it an ideal bike for smaller riders. This means that it’s an excellent option for female riders who, it should be said, account for one in three sales of this particular model. The bike’s colour-scheme options include four absolute doozies: Matte Gunpowder Black, Titanium Metallic Grey, Smoky Pearl Grey and Candy Diesel Red. Oh, and as of 2022, this Rebel received an extra paint-finish choice: Pearl Organic Green – perfect for those riders who fancy adding a bit of outlander style to the street-fighter mix.

Rebel spirit
While the CMX500 offers style, attitude and sheer rideability in abundance, it’s no slouch in the performance department, either. Yes, it’s an excellent bike for beginners but its 471cc engine outputs up to 45.6bhp and 43.3Nm of torque. Mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, the Rebel’s chain drives smoothly and efficiently transmits power to the rear wheel, enabling a top speed of 110mph. The bike returns as much as 73mpg too, while producing CO2 emissions from just 86g/km – and with its 11.2-litre tank full, it offers a range of up to 180 miles. With its aggressive styling and light and agile qualities, this is a bike that inspires confidence in the rider. Whenever you straddle the Rebel, you’ll be ready to cruise around the city – or anywhere else, for that matter – without a care in the world.
