Honda CBR500R
With the CBR500R, the stabilisers are well and truly off; just because it’s designed with A2 licence-holders in mind, doesn’t mean that it's not a potent two-wheeler. After all, any motorcycle which is part of the Honda’s CBR family of bikes is possessed of undoubted racing DNA.
This particular CBR has proven to be a popular choice with many young riders, including those who have made it their very first motorcycle. Indeed, approximately 60 percent of purchasers are no older than 34.
Dynamically fashioned and sporting a fresh set of graphics, the Honda CBR500R is powered by a twin-cylinder engine, which means it's ready to deliver some white-knuckle riding. The question is: are you ready for the challenge?
Pure sports
Forget the A2-motorcycle tag, the CBR500R is a sports bike through and through. Assertively styled with crisp creases and aerodynamic winglets, this two-wheeler is built to deliver rapid pace and reassuring stability. The latest model benefits from significant upgrades, including a considerably overhauled chassis. Furthermore, enhanced control is provided by all-new Showa 41-millimetre Separate Function Fork-Big Piston USD forks. Also new: dual 296-millimetre discs and two-piston Nissin radial mount callipers promote robust yet flexible braking force. Take a look at the wheels and you’ll notice a new five-spoke design, which helps retain unsprung weight – in turn, this sharpens side-to-side steering. Furthermore, a newly designed and lighter swingarm wrings every iota of performance from the bike.

Compact CBR, peak performance
It might be the smallest CBR in the Honda range but the CBR500R is nevertheless an absolute blast to ride. It’s powered by an eight-valve, liquid-cooled parallel twin-cylinder engine which produces 47bhp and a maximum torque of 43Nm at 6,5000rpm. This enables a top speed of 116.8mph. Accordingly, the bike emits an appropriately gratifying roar via its exhaust. In common with this CBR’s larger counterparts, Assist and Slipper Clutch technology delivers smooth six-gear transitions while preventing rear-wheel lock-up whenever rapidly switching from top to low gear. Anti-lock Braking System is included too, ensuring that the bike’s wheels don’t lock during hard braking.
