What is ULEZ?

ULEZ is just one example of the many Clean Air Zones situated around the UK, in cities such as Bath, Birmingham, Bradford, Bristol, Glasgow, Portsmouth and Sheffield. It stands for Ultra Low Emission Zone and as far as London is concerned, it covers every borough in the capital.

What is the ULEZ charge?

If you drive a vehicle that isn’t ULEZ compliant anywhere in London, you’ll be liable for a £12.50 daily charge. For instance, if you need to drive through the city on five separate days, you’ll need to pay a total of £62.50.

Does ULEZ affect me?

Many vehicles are exempt from ULEZ. However, you will have to pay a charge if you don’t drive one of the following:

• A petrol vehicle with a Euro 4 engine
• A diesel vehicle with a Euro 6 engine
• A motorcycle with a Euro 3 engine

As a general rule, petrol cars built after 2006 and diesel cars built after 2015 should be compliant. You can check whether your vehicle meets the requirements on the TFL website.
