Nissan Qashqai e-POWER Black Edition: eye-catching electrified crossover
Called Qashqai e-POWER Black Edition, styling changes have rendered the Qashqai with more road presence. The Qashqai e-POWER Black Edition comes in three colour combinations: an elegant black roof with Pearl white or Ceramic Grey body colours, or grey roof with a striking black body colour. All versions come with black five-spoke wheels to complete the effect.
The Black Edition introduces an imposing and distinctive premium look for Qashqai. The effect is understated and gives Nissan's best-in-class crossover a darker personality.
An extra detail is the inclusion of a kickplate which illuminates "Qashqai" upon opening the front doors. There will also be an optional package of additional equipment, called the "tech & connect pack" including a head-up display, which projects vital information into the driver's eyeline on the windscreen, full LED lights and Adaptive Driving Beam – an automotive safety feature that enable headlights to adjust their beam pattern in response to driving conditions, as well as a wireless smartphone charging pad.
A second option pack which includes a panoramic roof and roof rails, can be specified and for customers in colder climates, the "cold pack" will be available, with heated front seats, heated steering wheel and heated windscreen.
Created in collaboration with the team of designers at Nissan Design Europe, the brand's design hub in central London, the intention behind the creation of the Qashqai e-POWER Black Edition is to reinforce the Qashqai's design appeal and emotional touch for customers who are attracted by the rational benefits of the e-POWER drivetrain.
e-POWER: innovative & unique
At the heart of the Qashqai's appeal is its unique and innovative e-POWER system.
What sets this powertrain apart is that the wheels are only driven by the electric motor, so its response is instant and linear. This is what gives this EV-feeling and represents a significant alternative to traditional hybrids where drivers must accept its inherent shortcomings in the driving experience.
In contrast, the Qashqai's e-POWER system was conceived to deliver the responsive, effortless, smooth, and quiet driving experience reminiscent of a pure EV, but without the need to plug in order to recharge.
A variable compression ratio 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged 156 hp petrol engine generates electricity, which is then transmitted via the inverter to feed the high-output battery pack, drive the electric motor - or both simultaneously, according to the driving scenario.
"The Qashqai e-POWER Black Edition will turn the heads of customers who are attracted by its unique powertrain technology and will be seduced by the imposing personality, which is driven by the cool, sophisticated look of this special version," said Arnaud Charpentier.
