Or to give it its full name, the new Micra Direct Injection Gasoline-Supercharger! As the name suggests, the Micra DIG-S engine is a direct injection unit with a supercharger. Essentially this means you get the oomph of a big petrol engine with the fuel consumption of a diesel. The new Micra DIG-S engine is the latest development in low emission technology but happily doesn't come with a big price tag. It doesn't cost much more than the standard non-supercharged engine and you will keep saving money at the petrol pump! It will also save you money on road tax as it emits between 95 and 99g/km of CO2. The Micra DIG-S also features a fuel-saving stop/start function where the engine switches itself off when you're stationary and starts up again smoothly when you're ready to move off. There really is no other little hatchback that offers the same great performance alongside low running costs and being friendly to the environment too!
