Tips for driving at night
Driving late at night can be dangerous because your vision is restricted, resulting in higher risk of being involved in an accident. So we're going to advise on how you can lower the risk and be a safer late night driver.
Adjust your headlights
Often drivers are unsure of how their headlights should be or how to adjust them. We advise that you should learn how to adjust your lights to ensure that are optimal for night use. You can learn how to do this either through your car manual or you could even google it. You need to ensure that your lights are correctly lighting up the road in front of you.
Dim interior lighting
The interior lighting within your car may be too bright and distracting and could hurt your eyes. We advise changing the settings within your car computer so that the lights on your dashboard will automatically dim when it is dark. The lights within your car can also cause reflections on your windows and windscreen, which may sometimes obstruct your vision, so it's important to find a way to dim them.
Protect your eyes
By protecting your eyes, we don't mean to wear sun glasses. We want you to know that you shouldn't be looking into the lights of oncoming cars as they can affect your vision. Staring into the strong headlights of other cars can cause your vision to become blurry, resulting in higher chance of accidents. Keep your eyes to the road and not into lights.
Clean your car
This may seem silly, but it is one of the most simple things you can do. If adjusting your lights doesn't work - clean them, it could help with the brightness. You should also make sure that you clean your wing mirrors so you have clear vision of what is around you. Smudges, fingerprints and any other marks on your windscreen can also becoming very distracting and a lot more noticable during dark nights. Clean your windscreen often, but don't touch if with your hands; use a cloth.
Don't drive whilst tired
Did you know that if you drive when you are tiried, you have the same reaction times as somebody who is drunk? It's not only dangerous for you, but everybody around you. Before setting out, ensure you are well rested and alert. Drinking a high caffeinated drink might be helpful.
