Celebrating 1m MX-5s
Having debuted at the Chicago Motor Show in 1989, the Mazda MX-5 is now 27 years old. But more important than such a random birthday is that on 22nd April 2016 the 1,000,000th Mazda MX-5 came off the production line in Hiroshima, Japan and is now on a world tour.
This very special 1,000,000th Mazda MX-5 isn’t going to sit around, not that anyone who owns an MX-5 would ever allow their MX-5 to sit around anyway. But this one is very special indeed and is all set to become an international star. Starting with the Hiroshima Flower festival, this MX-5 will be visiting the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June 2016 on the UK leg of its world tour. Also present and to be seen for the first time in the UK will be the Speedster and the Spyder MX-5 concept cars. The MX-5 has a host of awards tucked safely away already, including the World Car of the Year, as well as holding the Guinness World Record for the best-selling, two-seater sports car. What’s more, if you can get yourself to Goodwood and attend the Moving Motor Show on 23rd June, the all-new MX-5 will be showing off its paces in the legendary hillclimb. Managing Director of Mazda UK commented: “The MX-5 sits at the heart of Mazda’s brand and it embodies all that is great about our cars.”
