It’s easy to spot the popular Nissan Qashqai model on roads around the UK and why wouldn't it be? The quality design and stylish appearance makes it the perfect family vehicle, which is why it’s no surprise that the model has hit the two million sales mark quicker than any other car in history!
The two millionth car built was a magnetic red version in the new n-Tec grade for a lucky UK customer. The model has beaten a number of other popular cars to the two million sales mark, including the Ford Fiesta, which took 18 years to reach two million sales as well as the BMW Mini, which took ten years to reach the same sales milestone. Designed, built and engineered in the UK, the pace of production was increased last year to meet the high demand, with one Qashqai being built every 20 seconds. Thanks to excellent facilities and £534 million invested into design, the model’s popularity has also helped to create 11,000 job opportunities at Nissan’s Sunderland based plant. With global production already at 2.5 million, we will be watching closely as the model creeps nearer to Micra’s record for the highest volume car in the history of the Sunderland plant – 2,368,704 models produced between 1992 and 2010. Due to the massive success of the Qashqai, it is already predicted that the new generation model will prompt even further record-breaking sales in the foreseeable future.
