The Goodwood Festival of Speed 2012 was the location for Nissan’s latest endeavour – setting a new world record for accelerating uphill for one mile.

Terry Grant, Nissan’s resident stuntman, achieved this amazing feat in just 1 minute and 37 seconds. That's an average of 55mph and to make this even more impressive, he did it backwards!

Terry's Nissan of choice for reversing the mile-long hill climb route was the all electric Nissan Leaf because, with its 100% electric motor credentials, it should be just as fast in reverse as it is moving forwards. And we think he demonstrated that point pretty well!

This isn't the first time Terry has wowed the Festival of Speed spectators in a Nissan. In 2011, he caused a stir by taking the Nissan Juke up the same hill... on just two wheels!

This year's event also saw the UK reveal of the Nissan Leaf Nismo RC following its demo runs at Le Mans and an exhilarating race between Nissan’s sports car models, the GT-R and 370Z GT. In addition, visitors were treated to an appearance from the GT1 Championship winning version of the GT-R which boasts an awesome 600bhp V8 engine.
