The new 2014 Nissan Qashqai was recently the star of a unique event in one of Europe’s leading contemporary art galleries. The Nissan Innovation and Excitement Event took place over four days at the Gateshead BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, where the new crossover took centre stage – even the Millennium Bridge was illuminated in the brand’s signature red to celebrate the new model’s arrival! The event featured rare concept images, a Qashqai show reel cinema as well as the new, highly-anticipated 2014 model. The occasion also highlighted the involvement of the Nissan teams at their Design Centre in London and Technical Centre in Bedfordshire, in developing the latest Qashqai model, as it moves into production stages at the company’s Sunderland plant. Qashqai Bridge Both new and existing customers interested in purchasing the new model were welcomed to attend, as well as individuals interested in working for Nissan, allowing them to approach the company in a more informal environment to discuss current recruitment opportunities. The company’s Vice President for Manufacturing in the UK, Kevin Fitzpatrick, commented, “Nissan has created the next generation Crossover by redesigning Qashqai from the ground-up. We thought it was fitting to celebrate that design in one of Europe's leading modern art galleries.” Last year alone, Nissan produced more than 500,000 cars from its Sunderland plant, of which approximately 286,000 were Qashqais. The model also contributed massively to car manufacturing in the UK reaching a six-year high in 2013. Now in its eighth year of production, total Qashqai production in the UK stands at 1,752,232. The company’s North East plant is the first ever in the UK to produce 1,000,000 cars in two years. The location also played host to the Qashqais press launch on 22 January, where Trevor Mann, Chief Performance Officer at Nissan, took to the stage to officially present the innovative second generation model.Qashqai Assembly Line   With an infectious buzz around the 2014 Qashqai, be sure to book your test drive at your nearest West Way dealership and keep an eye out on our website for our latest deals on the new model.
