Acclaim for Mazda’s vision of the future

Mazda design chief Ikuo Maeda responded by telling motoring journalists that the beautiful coupe represents the future for Mazda’s next generation of vehicles.

“The essence of this design concept will be evident in the next generation of Mazda cars, the first of which is due to be launched in 2019,” said Maeda, Mazda’s managing executive officer in charge of design and brand style.

The striking lines of the Vision Coupe represent a new Mazda design theme, which rather than attempting to clone western influences actually uses traditional Japanese aesthetics to great effect. The concept car’s flowing form is deceptively simple and implies elegance and quality. The bold new design has won widespread acclaim.

First it was voted ‘Most Beautiful Concept Car of the Year’ at the 2018 Paris International Automobile Festival. Then a panel of judges – including several global design directors of rival car-makers – judged the Vision Coupe Concept Car of the Year at the prestigious Geneva Show.

“It’s an honour to have this model, which aims to express the essence of Japanese aesthetics, applauded by some of the world’s top car designers,” said Maeda.
