A world first and a double win for the MX-5
It’s officially the best new car in the whole world and, in a unique double win, the Mazda MX-5 has been crowned World Car of the Year 2016, as well as winning the influential World Car Design of the Year.
The Mazda MX-5 has already won a plethora of awards, in excess of 30, but we were absolutely delighted when this iconic roadster walked away with these two highly prestigious awards, having impressed the 73 top motoring journalists from 23 countries around the world on the judging panel. Masahiro Moro from Mazda said: “What a wonderful honour, to have the Mazda MX-5 named both World Car of the Year and World Car Design of the Year. As our iconic MX-5 roadster approaches one-million units of production, this award is proof that it is as young, vibrant, fun and relevant as ever, and proof that every Mazda looks as incredible as it drives, and drives as incredibly as it looks.”
These awards follow on from recent successes for the Mazda MX-5, winning the 2015-2016 Car of the Year Japan and 2016 UK Car of the Year.
