Big boost for Kia connectivity with Android and Apple
Kia is at the forefront of connectivity with the announcement that Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will feature on all its newest models. That means this year, the Kia Niro, the Optima Plug-in Hybrid and the Sportswagon will all benefit from this big boost to connectivity.
Over the next year and a half, Kia will be incorporating Android Auto and Apple CarPlay into all its European model range. In addition, new models including the all-new Kia Optima, the new Niro and the All-New Kia Sportage will feature Kia Connected Services, an information package powered by TomTom that gives access to live traffic updates, speed camera locations and weather reports, as well as the ability to search for nearby places of interest. What’s more, it will be free for the first seven years of a new Kia’s life.
Android Auto will allow you to access apps on any Android device with 5.0 Lollipop or higher through the car’s infotainment system, using the 7” or 8” touch screen. This means that you will be able to access Google Maps for navigation, stream music from Google Play Music and make hands-free texts and phone calls, all using voice recognition. With similar touch screen access, Apple CarPlay will give you Siri voice control with any iPhone 5 or later model, as well as Apple Maps navigation, music streaming, audio books, phone calls and texts.
It’s a superb package of connectivity and it’s all going to be ready and available on every new Kia soon.
