Are cars with electric motors harder to fix?

As both hybrid and fully electric cars are becoming more popular as the road to 2030 creeps closer and closer, many people are wondering how difficult or expensive it would be to fix an electric motor.
Does your EV need to be serviced or repaired?

With the population slowly making the switch to electric in order to produce less fuel emissions and protect our planet, the question on everybody's tongues is; will they be more difficult to fix?

The short answer is no, probably not. Electric motors have fewer moving parts than an internal conbustion engine, which makes repairs somewhat easier. Hybrids do, however, require more work, but that doesn't essentially mean it will be more difficult.

One factor that can make repairing an electric vehicle difficult is finding a garage that has somebody qualified to work on electric motors. However, all main dealers should have a team that is appropriately trained to work on EV's. Staff at any garage will need specific training as they will be dealing with high voltage mechanics, and will also need certain tools.

Servicing an electric vehicle can be much simpler than a petrol-engined car in many respects. However, hybrid cars are more difficult as they have a number of components, such as the electric motor, the battery and the engine, which means more things could go wrong. Common issues within both EV's and hybrids include the battery and the high voltage cables, which are easy to fix buy can come at a higher cost.

There are also common issues that any car with an electric motor has with petrol engined cars that can happen at any time. Things such as tyre issues(Bald, flat or punctured), or even issues with your lights are very simple to fix and any mechanic could do this.

To summarize, no, cars with electric motors are not more difficult to fix, aslong as you take it to a garage which has team that is trained to deal with electric vehicles. However, repairs for EV's and Hybrid's can sometimes be more costly.
