70 Year Look Back Across Nissan Electric Vehicles

1947 TAMA.
This was the beginning of Nissan journey into electric cars for the modern driver. The TAMA was an innovative urban car, that produced a top speed of 21mph and offered the driver a 40-mile range.
1970 315X
After a 23-year gap, Nissan launched a small 2-seater concept car that was built for commuters. This model paved the way for some of Nissan’s modern electric technology that we see in the Nissan LEAF today. The commuter car came with regenerative braking technology. Allowing to store lost energy when under braking, just as modern cars do today, just a little more advanced.
1983 MARCH EV
As Nissan developed electric technology, we saw advancements in range. The March EV was the first electric car developed with an induction motor and a 2-speed electromagnetic transmission. This advancement in technology allowed the March EV to give the driver a 100-mile range at a constant speed of 25-mph.
1995 FEV II
This electric car paved the way for next-gen battery technology that is used (with many advancements) in today’s Nissan electric vehicles like the e-NV200 and Nissan LEAF. The FEV was the first EV car to use lithium-ion batteries. This allowed a reduced weight solution for EV’s. Its name FEV is an acronym of ‘future electric vehicles’.
2008 NUVU
The NUVU was Nissan’s glimpse into what the LEAF would be like. This concept model was a small sporty car with efficient batteries. This allowed the NUVU to achieve a range of 77-miles. This concept was also environmentally friendly, not just because it was electric, it was because of the materials it used on the interior design.
2010 Nissan LEAF
This is Nissan’s flagship production electric car. Since it rolled out of the factory it reached a milestone of sales. This EV was the first production electric car to sell 500,000 units worldwide by December 2020. There is a long list of awards this vehicle has won, too many to list. This hatchback was launched with a range of 109-miles, giving the driver more flexibility in distance than ever before.
2013 NISSAN E-NV200
Nissan brought to the automotive market production electric van, the e-NV200. Nissan had taken their popular panel van the NV200 and turned it into an electric van for the masses. After many trials with companies like FedEx the electric van was launched June 2013. A driver could expect a range of 110-miles on a single charge.
2020 NISSAN LEAF E+
As the electric car technology has advanced so has the Nissan LEAF. the e+ model was launched with many upgrades. A 62kWh motor, range of 239-miles (WLTP) and the capabilities of an 80% charge in 90-minutes. 2020 saw the 10th anniversary of the loved family electric hatchback. To celebrate Nissan launched an 87kWh with a range of 310-miles (WLTP)
2021 NISSAN ARIYA
Nissan launched what looks like a concept car with its singular lines and clean look as their next electric production car. The next-generation electric crossover is a spacious SUV that is ready to go head to head with the Tesla Model Y. Its 4ORCE all-wheel drive allows this electric SUV to go up to 310-miles (WLTP) on a single charge. Now that’s such an achievement from the 1947 TAMA that had a range of 40miles.
