The CB1000R Black Edition is built to handle whatever you've got.

The Honda CB1000R Black Edition

If you require a bike that’s easy to live with and is possessed of an intimidating aura, the CB1000R Black Edition is the perfect candidate.

This dark delight isn’t always easy to get a fix on, which is by design, of course. Some bikes are created with in-your-face colours and graphics – but this is simply not what the Black Edition’s all about. Sometimes, less is more and, because black represents an absence of light, it’s a look that makes this CB1000R all the more impressive when it emerges from the shadows.

Stealthy though it is, this bike is more than capable of announcing its presence; with the throttle opened wide, a rasping, deep-thrumming sound emits from an appropriately all-black 4-2-1 exhaust.

Paint it black

With its Graphite Black paint finish, the CB1000R Black Edition exudes pitch-dark charisma. The bike’s exhaust system, for instance, is as pure-black as they come, as is this two-wheeler’s Showa front suspension. Nevertheless, to fully showcase darkness, it’s necessary to offer a little light as contrast, which is where certain machined aluminium details play their part. The rider is provided with a luxurious Alcantara-upholstered main seat – all-black, of course – which delivers optimum levels of comfort – and is complemented by a similarly upholstered pillion position. If you would prefer to dial back the black levels, an alternative Matte Jeans Blue Metallic finish makes for a fine option, with its inky-azure-toned fuel tank commanding particular attention.

Fly, my pretty

When you’re travelling at speed and the wind is particularly strong, a resilient fly screen is an absolute must. This one comes with an attractive anodised black finish, offering a fashionable aspect to the art of wind deflection.

Keep connected

A five-inch screen utilises Honda’s Smartphone Voice Control System, allowing easy access to calls, messages, audio content and navigation functionality. It’s fully compatible with Apple and Android devices too.

Kitted out

An easily attachable rear seat bag provides a flexible capacity of between 15 and 22 litres. Meanwhile, a Tank Bag offers a three-litre volume and features a handy zip-up side pocket (ideal for mobile devices and the like) that fits snugly with the bike’s fuel tank.

Fireblade-like performance

A 998cc inline four-cylinder engine is derived from that of the 2004 Fireblade, ensuring the CBR1000R comes with Super Sport pedigree. The bike’s liquid-cooled DOHC powerplant produces a maximum output of 143.5bhp at 10,50rpm and a peak torque of 104Nm at 8,250rpm, which means it’s plenty quick. The CBR1000R is provided with an adjustable quick shifter that facilitates immediate, clutch-less and full-throttle upshifts and fully-supported downshifts. Furthermore, gear-shifting sensitivity can be switched from SOFT to MEDIUM to HARD with ease. Yes, this jet-black beast is calibrated to deliver high performance levels – and its 4-2-1 exhaust-system produces a perfectly complementary soundtrack.
