What is Motability?
The Motability Scheme was set up to enable drivers with a disability to retain their independence and mobility through the use of a brand new vehicle.
These cars can be specially adapted for your needs, and are available in exchange for part or all of your mobility allowance. Running costs, servicing, breakdown cover, and insurance are all included.
Am I applicable?
Customers who receive one of the following motability allowances can take part in the scheme. There must be at least 12 months' award length remaining to be eligible.
- Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance (HRMC DLA)
- Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (ERMC PIP)
- War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
- Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)
About the scheme
Nothing should stop you living a full life, with independence and freedom. The Motability Scheme opens the doors to those things, with worry free motoring that helps you to keep moving. The Motability Scheme helps you get mobile by exchanging your qualifying mobility allowance to lease a new affordable car, Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle, scooter or powered wheelchair.
Motability Adaptions
Motability adaptations are available for vehicles where customers require extra assistance or features. With around 500 options available on the Scheme, many of which are free of charge when fitted at the beginning of your lease, driving and access can be made easier, and stowage for a wheelchair or scooter can be optimised.
How do I know which adaptions I need?
Modern vehicles are far more accommodating to varying needs than when the Motability Scheme was established in the 1970s. Many features – such as automatic gearboxes and boots with flat entry – are readily available as options at the point of production, meaning many customers’ needs can be met without additional adaptations. If, however, you have specific difficulties when driving or accessing a vehicle, tailored solutions can be found.
Our Motability specialists are here to advise which adaptations could make your experience simpler and more convenient. For example, those with driving difficulties can request mechanical hand controls or steering aids, while for customers with specific access needs, transfer plates or swivel seats can be fitted. Whatever the adaptation you require, we’ll ensure it’s requested, and will discuss any applicable charges before completing your order.
