Mitsubishi has excelled with the new Outlander in its design and in how it’s engineered, adding to the Outlander’s already superb reputation by evolving its Dynamic Shield concept to provide an increased sense of safety for you and your passengers. In addition, internal space has been increased and even more equipment has been packed into the new Outlander, whilst the drive and the refinement have also been substantially improved. Mitsubishi Outlander Design

Big and powerful with strong shoulders and high flanks, the new Mitsubishi Outlander has the look and feel of a dynamic SUV, and when it’s showing off its daytime running lights and extra-wide, wrap-around, LED headlamps, they can only add to its sense of presence. There are new-look alloy wheels, a sleek, new radiator grille and new, soft-contoured bumpers at the front and back. There’s also a wide range of colours to choose from for your new Outlander: Frost White, Pearl White, Amethyst Black, Cool Silver, Atlantic Grey, Orient Red, Tanzanite Blue and Granite Brown.

An important factor in the design has been the attention paid to making the cabin even quieter and more comfortable, with some 40 new enhancements to the Outlander’s refinement. Road noise has been further reduced, thanks to high quality tyres, suspension tuning and the clever use of sound-proofing materials. Engine noise has also been reduced, whilst better acoustic sealing has been included and thicker glass has been used in the rear doors, and there’s now also an acoustic windscreen.

Mitsubishi Outlander Interior

With its elevated driving position offering you a commanding view of the road ahead and an easier view behind, thanks to the auto-dimming rear-view mirror, the high quality of the materials used in the dashboard design enhance the driving experience. The steering wheel controls have been planned for ease of use and the high-res instrument displays are designed to be as easy as possible to read. Sculpted, leather seats with more padding and silver stitching are both more comfortable and more attractive. The new Outlander is 4cm longer and the Mitsubishi designers have put this extra space to good use: with all the rear seats folded away, the luggage capacity is an excellent 1,608 litres. Alternatively, the new Outlander can be specified to carry up to seven people with its highly adjustable second row of seats and the third-row of seats offering a 50/50 split.

 Outlander 4-Wheel Drive

Engine, transmissions and four-wheel drive

The 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander comes with the Euro 6 2.2 litre Clean Diesel engine. It boasts one of the lowest compression ratios available, whilst offering, for example, 150PS, 380Nm of torque, a 0-62mph time of 10.2 seconds and CO2 emissions of 139g/km. You can choose between a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. The on-demand 4WD system is designed to improve the Outlander’s traction and stability on all terrains, whilst improving its environmental performance. The 4WD comes with three modes, allowing you to switch to Eco, which means just the front wheels are driven until they lose traction; Auto, which is the normal mode for most driving conditions; and Lock, which is for when you are driving in the toughest conditions and require the best possible traction.

 Outlander Safety

With its five star safety rating from Euro NCAP, the new Outlander has been designed with safety to the fore. Improved crash protection features RISE, Mitsubishi’s Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution, which offers safety enhancements from impacts from multiple directions, at the same time as enhancing pedestrian safety, especially in the head and leg areas. This is joined with technology such as Hydraulic Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Programme, speed limiter and City Crash Provision. Even the lighting can contribute to the Outlander’s safety with its LED headlights being 1.4 times brighter, to make seeing and being seen that much easier.
