Mitsubishi ASX

Individual, innovative and versatile, the new Mitsubishi ASX is the capable compact crossover that will fit into your life seamlessly. It goes about its business quietly, thanks to clever noise and vibration isolation, and efficiently, thanks to numerous advanced engine and drivetrain technologies. And, because it’s a Mitsubishi, you can expect it to continue doing this, day after day. Thanks to advanced active safety systems, it will look after you too, and it will bring a smile to your face – not least because Mitsubishi ASX prices start at just £15,999, which means exceptional value for money from the moment you get behind the wheel.

ASX stands for Active Sports Crossover, which is an indication of just how much fun this vehicle is to live with and to drive. But, as a vehicle that illustrates Mitsubishi’s Intelligent Motion philosophy on the road, it has a serious side too. Practicality is the key appeal of this Mitsubishi crossover. With a wheelbase to match the Outlander, passenger space is generous, with the flexible seating and storage inside giving the ASX real versatility, while its optional four-wheel-drive system means go-anywhere, all-road, any-condition driving adaptability as well. Engine Range

As a manufacturer, Mitsubishi never stops working to make all of its engines cleaner and more efficient, and the ASX’s range of engines is a prime example of this:

  • 1.6 MIVEC petrol: featuring clever MIVEC variable valve timing technology for reduced emissions at lower engine speeds and greater output power at higher ones, this quiet and smooth petrol engine is capable of economy of up to 48.7mpg combined and excellent CO2 emissions of just 135g/km.
  • 1.6 SOHC diesel: cleaner still is this new 1.6-litre diesel. Powerful and economical, it returns a combined figure of up to 56.5mpg on the 2WD model, and delivers excellent in-gear flexibility and a strong spread of power with plenty of pull low down: indeed, maximum torque of 199lb-ft is achieved at just 1,750 rpm, making for really relaxed progress.
  • 2.2 diesel: with 150PS, the biggest diesel engine in the range provides effortless performance. This is a direct injection diesel, delivering more than enough punch to deal with full loads and towing, it’s also remarkably frugal, returning up to 48.7mpg combined. Mated to a 6-speed INVECS-II automatic transmission, which learns to emulate your driving style and adjust the timing of its gearshifts accordingly, and All Wheel Control four-wheel drive, this engine and transmission combination makes the ASX a pleasure to drive and highly capable in all conditions.

Mitsubishi Specifications: All Wheel Control

All Wheel Control

With selectable, on-demand, four-wheel drive, the 2017 Mitsubishi ASX gives you the best of both worlds. It provides extra grip when you need it, yet still returns excellent fuel economy, the four-wheel drive only engaging when it’s needed. There are two 4WD modes to choose from: AUTO provides better grip on slippery road surfaces and greater stability when accelerating out of junctions or towing on the highway, and LOCK improves performance over more difficult terrain or in challenging weather conditions.

Interior Design of the Mitsubishi ASX

Interior

Employing a contrasting use of textures and materials, ergonomically designed and generously equipped, the ASX’s interior is a pleasure to spend time in. Premium features include LED ambience lighting, panoramic glass sunroof, leather seats with heating and multi-adjustable electric functions, and a driver information 3.3" colour LCD screen. Not only that, but it’s a pleasure to live with too, thanks to its space and practicality.

With decades of experience in designing multi-purpose vehicles and compact city cars, Mitsubishi is expert in maximising the use of interior space: the ASX is the embodiment of this expertise. The ASX has a spacious 419-litre boot with a wide opening tailgate and low floor for easy access, as well as a large 26-litre underfloor tray, and a 60:40 split rear bench seat with an easy-fold-to-flat function. It means the ASX can adapt to your motoring needs, no matter what they may be.

Mitsubishi Safety

Five Star Safety

The ASX enjoys a coveted five star rating in the independent Euro NCAP safety tests, and it’s not hard to see why. It boasts a highly rigid body structure that is incredibly protective, and combined with safety features that include seven airbags, in the event of an accident, the ASX will look after its occupants like little else. Other features like hill hold assist, and parking sensors and cameras make sure small bumps are unlikely as well. However, it’s the active safety systems of the ASX that really set it apart…

The Active Stability Control system analyses the vehicle’s motion and, if it identifies wheel slippage, it limits engine output and applies braking power to the appropriate wheels to maintain stability and control. Then there’s the clever ABS system, complete with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, which automatically adjusts the brake effort to individual wheels to accommodate shifts in weight distribution, and there’s Brake Assist, which provides additional power assistance to boost braking in an emergency situation. Along with the Emergency Stop Signal System, which automatically flashes the hazard warning lights at double speed to warn drivers around you that you’re braking hard, it all adds up to one of the safest places to be on the road.
