Mazda SKYACTIV Engines

What are Mazda SKYACTIV engines?

Mazda has developed SKYACTIV Technology to make the most of the internal combustion engine, maximising MPGs and minimising emissions. The latest Mazda SKYACTIV-X combustion engine is the first petrol engine anywhere in the world to make use of compression ignition. The spark-controlled compression ignition system uses a fuel-air mixture that ignites spontaneously when compressed by the piston. In effect, this is a system that brings you the combined advantages of a diesel engine and a petrol engine.

Why choose Mazda SKYACTIV engines?

SKYACTIV Technology is designed to make car ownership less costly for car owners and less costly to the environment. Unique technologies increase the power efficiency of Mazda engines. But there’s more. Mazda SKYACTIV engines and the supporting technology have also been designed for two of the most important aspects of any car: driving pleasure and performance.

SKYACTIV engines are available for Mazda’s diesel range, SKYACTIV-D, and for petrol cars, SKYACTIV-G, and now the most recent and most efficient petrol version, SKYACTIV-X.

SKYACTIVE-X ENGINES

This ultra innovative unit is a 2.0 litre petrol engine with four cylinders. It features unique Spark Plug Controlled Compression Ignition (SPCCI) technology. The spark ignition of a petrol engine is combined with the compression ignition of a diesel. This results in more power, economy and reduced emissions.

Advantages of the SKYACTIV-X engine include:

  • Improves fuel economy by 20 to 30% - expect up to 52.3mpg in the All-New Mazda3 (medium cycle)
  • More available power - 180PS at 6,000 rpm
  • Increases torque by 10 to 30% - an impressive 224Nm at 3,000 rpm
  • Lower CO2 emissions – from just 96g/km (depending on transmission and wheel size)
  • Delivers unparalleled engine response
  • More leeway in choosing gear ratios

The All-New Mazda3 also benefits from M Hybrid technology. This smart 24V mild hybrid system recovers energy created when braking and slowing down. As a result, it augments engine power and boosts the electrical system, reducing fuel consumption.
