Why Brayley Mazda really could be best for your Mazda MOT test

When it comes to knowing all about your Mazda from top to bottom and front to back, our technicians are up there with the very best. As a main Mazda dealer, we have all the latest tools and equipment recommended by Mazda and all our technicians have been trained and are regularly updated by Mazda on all the latest models. These are the very same technicians who will carry out your Mazda MOT, so they have also been trained in the latest MOT test procedures and are qualified to standards laid down by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). What’s more, all our MOT testers have at least four years’ experience working as fully qualified mechanics before we send them to train as MOT testers and they are updated and retested every year, so you can be sure their skills are at the highest level.

All this skill and experience is available to you at all three of our Mazda dealerships in Harpenden, Grays and Milton Keynes, so we’re easily accessible. To make life easier, we always recommend co-ordinating your Mazda’s annual service and MOT, getting everything done and sorted in one simple visit.

Looking inside an MOT test

Since 1960, MOT tests have been mandatory in the UK and you must now have a valid MOT certificate for cars more than three years old. Over the years, there have been many changes in the requirements that cars must meet to pass. The most recent additions and changes to the MOT test occurred on 20th May 2018 – that’s why it’s so important that we keep out MOT testers updated all the time. It’s vital not just for your own safety and peace of mind for your car to have passed its MOT, but you could be fined up to £1,000, if you drive a car without one.

There are a few points to bear in mind about the MOT test:

  • The MOT doesn’t test your car’s engine, gearbox or clutch
  • The MOT test can only tell you the roadworthiness of your car at the time of the test – issues often can and often do arise afterwards, so think about regular Mazda health checks
  • You must check your car and make sure there are no safety issues every time you drive
  • If you drive an unsafe vehicle that’s failed its MOT due to a dangerous defect, you could be banned from driving, fined up to £2,500 and get three penalty points

During your Mazda MOT test, we will check a range of components such as:

  • Your Mazda’s body, vehicle structure and general items
  • Steering, suspension, tyres and wheels
  • Fuel system, exhaust system and emissions
  • Brakes
  • Battery and visible electrical wiring
  • Lights
  • Seats and seatbelts
  • Security and operation of doors, bonnet and boot lid or tailgate
  • Horn
  • Windscreen condition
  • Any tow bar fitted to your car
  • Registration plates and VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)

What should I do if my Mazda fails its MOT test?

Your Mazda could fail its MOT test due to what are referred to as major defects and dangerous defects. In this event, we’ll prepare an estimate for you to cover any work that must be done to fix the defect. After repair, your Mazda may be subject to either a full retest or it may be eligible for a partial retest – we’ll let you know which is required. Even if your car passes its MOT test, we may let you know that it has minor defects or issue you with an advisory note about possible problems we see might arise in the future. Again, we will be pleased to let you have our estimate to remedy these problems, so you can drive away with confidence.

If you already bring us your Mazda for all its routine servicing and maintenance, it will probably pass its MOT with no problems – another good reason to carry out your service and MOT at the same time.

Our Mazda specialist technicians are undoubted MOT specialists as well, but our Mazda MOT cost is still only £54.85. If you have any questions about your Mazda, its servicing and maintenance, your Mazda MOT test or about booking your Mazda MOT and service together, please just give our friendly Mazda servicing team a call.
