Specs, prices and photos of the classic, yet contemporary sports car with added style and refinement
Delivering improved cabin comfort and ride refinement, while maintaining the agility, performance and driver engagement of the MX-5 convertible, the Mazda MX-5 RF is for those looking for a sports car without compromise.
With gorgeous fastback lines when the roof is closed, and an exhilarating open-air feeling with it open, the new sports car from Mazda truly does provide the best of both worlds. It’s available to pre-order now from Brayley Mazda, so you can be sure to enjoy the start of spring in style.

The MX-5 RF represents perhaps the perfect open-top motoring compromise, with the electrically retractable fastback roof improving cabin refinement, both when it’s up and down, compared to the Roadster. It gives the cabin the sense of open-air freedom, while still being shielded from the elements. Its sharp design complements the MX-5’s subtle, yet dynamic Mazda KODO: Soul of Motion design and proportions perfectly, the sloping buttresses resulting in a teardrop shape that accentuates the MX-5’s sleek sports car silhouette.
The retractable hardtop consists of a front section, middle and rear roof sections, and a glass rear screen. When the top is lowered, the front and middle portions are stowed away, and the rear glass sits behind the seats, leaving the rear roof section in place for a unique targa-top look. The roof can be retracted on the move (up to 6mph) in just 12 seconds, and does so in a beautifully graceful motion.
Polished to perfection
The suspension and electric power steering settings of the all-new RF have been expertly tuned for the perfect ride and handling balance, and a sound-absorbing headliner in the front and middle roof panels combines with sound insulation around the rear wheel housings to deliver a significantly quieter cabin with the roof in place. A 5mm increase in roof height aside, the RF retains the same overall dimensions as the MX-5 convertible and, despite the sleek design, the MX-5 RF offers the same boot space as the soft-top model as well.
The MX-5 RF range
As with the Mazda MX-5 convertible, two SKYACTIV-G petrol engines will be available for the RF, a 131PS 1.5-litre and a 160PS 2.0-litre. Versions with the more powerful engine feature a limited-slip differential and 17-inch wheels, while Sport Nav 2.0-litre models also have Bilstein dampers and a strut brace. The £27,095 Sport Nav Auto is the first current MX-5 to be offered with an automatic gearbox in the UK.

Colour with soul
Complementing the KODO: Soul of Motion bodywork design perfectly is the Soul Red and Machine Grey metallic paintwork. They both use Mazda’s unique TAKUMINURI paint process, which displays glossy depth and nuanced shading to intensify the contrasts between light and shadow within its high-density finish. The system uses a three-coat paint structure, consisting of colour, reflective and clear coats. It’s a high-quality finish that looks as if it was hand-painted by a master craftsman, and gives the impression that the RF’s body was sculpted from a solid block of steel.
There will also be a Launch Edition model, with a limited run of just 500 cars made. Powered by the 2.0-litre engine, the Launch Edition is marked out by a unique bi-colour roof, BBS wheels, black door mirrors and rear spoiler and either Soul Red or Machine Grey metallic paint. It also comes with a Safety Pack as standard, and Alcantara trim and Recaro seats.
