Kia Stinger Design

Kia Stinger GT Design Philosophy

The Kia design team has excelled with the Stinger. Starting from a definition of what a GT is and what it isn’t. Namely, that the Stinger should be a lively and luxurious performance car for people who are passionate about driving and that it should be comfortable for driving over long distances. However, it wasn’t going to be just about pure, brute power and its associated appearance, although the Stinger has been evaluated and refined through a strenuous and detailed set of assessments on the testing Nürburgring racing circuit, so every aspect of its performance has been optimised. The concept on which the Kia Stinger GT is based was first revealed in 2011 at the Frankfurt Motor Show and after years of dedicated work, it’s set to stun the world with its revolutionary approach for the Kia brand. Outside the Kia Stinger

Outside the Kia Stinger GT

From its powerful haunches, making it look ready to spring into action at any moment, to its strong shoulders, the Stinger exudes a confident presence on the road. With a short front overhang, long rear overhang, long bonnet and long wheelbase, the Stinger shows its fastback GT credentials, but does so like a honed athlete, rather than with any hint of aggression.

The design is all about performance expressed through elegance, and this approach continues with the functional components on the exterior, which are both visually and effectively highly aerodynamic. At the back, the four oval exhaust pipes make it obvious that the Stinger is built for performance, whilst the tiger-nose grille at the front makes it obvious that this is a GT from the Kia stable.

Kia Stinger Interiors

Inside the Stinger

The luxurious cabin is spacious, benefiting from excellent head room and leg room throughout for the driver and up to four passengers. The ultra-soft Nappa leather seats are designed for comfort, luxury and support, whilst the driver also benefits from the additional support of air-cell bladders in the seat. The dashboard is highly ergonomic and divided into two sections: the top is dedicated to the large colour touchscreen and all the infotainment controls, whilst the bottom half houses the controls for climate and ventilation. There’s a colour TFT screen for the driver, showing information from oil temperature to G-forces, whilst other data is relayed through both analogue and digital displays, mounted on a single binnacle.

Kia Stinger Technology

Innovative technology for the Kia Stinger GT

Safety innovations included under the banner of multiple advanced driver assistance systems include driver attention alert, forward collision assistance, advanced smart cruise control, lane keep assist and rear cross traffic alert. Another safety feature is the head-up display, which projects essential information onto the windshield, so the driver’s eyes can stay constantly on the road. Phones are taken care of through the hands-free Bluetooth and there’s also a wireless Smartphone charging pad. There is a high-quality audio system, of course, with either six speakers, nine speakers and a separate amplifier or 15 speakers and under-seat subwoofers, depending on the model chosen. The top-of-the-range model also features QuantumLogic Surround Sound technology.

Kia Stinger Engines

The heart of the Stinger

There’s a choice of three engines: the 2.0-litre T-GDi ISG four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 244bhp, the 3.3-litre T-GDi ISG six-cylinder petrol engine, producing 365bhp with a 0-60mph time of 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 168mph, or the 2.2-litre CRDi ISG four-cylinder diesel engine. All three engines make use of Kia’s eight-speed, rear-drive automatic transmission, which is highly efficient on fuel and offers crisp gear shifts. An all-wheel drive option may also be available, featuring Kia’s new dynamic torque vectoring control system. There’s another Kia first on the Stinger and that’s the dynamic stability damping control. This enables the driver to adjust the Stinger’s handling for current road conditions or for each individual driver’s preferences.
